"His most important and voluminous writings were the two Carmichael Prize essays of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the one published in 1879 and the other in 1888. The subject of both was same, namely 'The Medical Profession,' and they dealt with the history of the profession from the earliest times until the date of publication.
