Erythema chronicum migrans and Lyme arthritis: Epidemiologic evidence for a tick vector.Am. J. Epidemiol., 108, 312-321, 1978.The authors showed that a tick was the insect vector for Lyme disease. The tick (the "Deer Tick") is named lxodes dammini. Order of authorship in the original paper was Steere, Broderick, and Malawista. (Thanks to Juan Weiss for this reference.)
