On the operation of tying the subclavian artery.Edinb. med. surg. J., 11, 1-25, 1815.Colles tied the subclavian artery in 1811 and again in 1813. Garrison reminded us that Colles is credited with the first successful ligation of the innominate artery in Europe, but was unable to verify this.
