Cadet de Vaux discussed the history of coffee, including the origins of the coffee bean and plant, the proper climate for growing coffee, coffee drinking culture and its introduction to Europe. He also described the beneficial properties of coffee, listing ailments that could be cured by drinking coffee. Charles-Louis Cadet, Antoine-Alexis's nephew, described how to brew the perfect cup of coffee, also mentioning different methods of making coffee, like cold coffee or with alcohol.
