Also included is a remarkable series of portraits of the insane, depicting patients suffering from “melancholia,” “melancholia with fear,” “melancholia with strong suicidal tendency,” “hilarious mania” and “mania.” As a contribution to the artistic depiction of disease this work is unsurpassed.
